This very collectable piece is sturdy and was no doubt made for hard use. It was made by the Ersari Turkmen in north-western Afghanistan, sometime in the last 50 years. The three sides of the grey half side were originally stitched, and was therefore probably used for a bag or pillow. These were quite common in tents, as everything had to have a function, and there was usually plenty of time for the decoration of such items by Ersari women.
